Solving the Affordable Housing Crisis: Understanding Root Causes and Addressing Production Challenges – Fall 2024
The national housing crisis continues to deepen despite efforts to improve production. The general approach in recent years has been to increase funding from localities and nationally to facilitate construction of affordable housing. This course takes a fresh approach, exploring the root causes of the problem and proposing ideas for both the public and private sectors to consider implementing. We will start by examining the economics of affordable housing and the challenges hindering production. Then, we will discuss practical steps for the public and private sectors to begin to address this crisis. Together, we can begin to move the needle to promote housing production and improve housing affordability nationwide.
